A WONDERLAND XMAS
SHORT STORY
It all started with a
snowflake.
The rabbit knew that was
on the start of the chaos. When one snowflake fell, there were more to follow.
Soon the forest would be
white and that only meant one thing.
They would all come out.
The crazies. The rabbit
twitched his nose and his long ears perked for any sign of any of them.
The forest was so quiet.
Nothing stirred. The snowflakes now were falling freely as light as air. One
landed on his nose. He stared at it as if afraid to move. It might make a
noise.
That was silly,
snowflakes didn’t make noise-only them.
Maybe if he made it to
his hole, he would be safe. So he went for it. He dashed across the forest bed
towards his home.
But he should have known.
The table that sat in the
middle of the forest clearing just before his home, had someone sitting there.
He didn’t want to look to see who it was.
As he got closer he could
tell they were face down on the table and snow was beginning cover their head.
He sighed as he went over
to investigate. That was a mistake as they popped back up and smiled at him.
“It’s snowing,” they
declared. “You know what that means?”
Rabbit shook his head. He
didn’t want to hear it.
“He’s coming. I can’t wait.”
Rabbit twitched his nose
again. And went to go home and hopefully shut them out before anymore came.
The trees started to
shake as rabbit made his way back. If he could hurry perhaps…
No.
“Let’s party. Come on
rabbit. Let’s set the table up.”
He knew that voice. It
was the forest sprite who liked to cause trouble. Her name was Chessie. She
also always traveled with her cohorts that also liked to cause all kinds of
trouble.
Rabbit slowly turned and
his eyes went wide. That crazy mad hatter was bringing up the party goers. In
his arm was the queen of hearts. Her red dress was bright against the falling
snow.
Fairies and strange birds
followed them with trays of food to put on the table. Two big cats came in with
wine and poured everyone a glass.
The one with the face
down on the table was the first to grab a glass and make a toast. No one paid
any attention to what he said.
The chaos had begun and
rabbit couldn’t escape.
Soon there would be music
and singing.
The snow was starting to
fall more and more but it just made them all more excited about his arrival.
They brought acorns and pine
cones and ivy. Rabbit shivered as he noticed some poison ivy and stinging
nettles in the mix. They didn’t care.
It was starting to get
dusk now. It was the eve now and the queen of hearts was dancing with one of
the sprites.
Then things started to
heat up as the snow queen made her grand entrance. She was riding on two snow
foxes. The queen of hearts hissed and the sprite she was dancing with laughed
and pushed the queen of hearts towards the snow queen.
All rabbit could hear was
shrills and laughter mixed with the hisses.
It was time for him to
leave. Maybe between the two sprites making bets on which queen would win the
fight, he could slip away.
But it’s always the mad
hatter. He notices everything.
“Hey rabbit, come on over
here for a bit. I have something to show you.”
He knew he could not run
away. He would catch him. So he slowly made his way over to where the mad hatter
was sitting.
His hat tonight was red
with white feathers sticking out the back with a white rose at the base of the
feathers. The queen of hearts must not have been happy to see that.
“Are you excited about
tonight?”
Rabbit just shook his
head and the mad hatter frowned. Then he smiled and pulled out a small gift.
“This is for you.”
Chessie came over to
investigate along with one of the big cats who sniffed it. Rabbit couldn’t read
the cats expression to see if he smelled something wrong with it.
“Take it, my dear friend
and enjoy.”
Chessie picked it up
first and shook it and then handed it to rabbit.
Rabbit very carefully
took the gift and pulled the large red ribbon and it fell into the fluffy snow.
He was almost afraid to see what was inside. When he peeked, it was a red
scarf. He pulled it out and held it in front of him. It was very nice.
“I knitted it you know,”
said the mad hatter. “Do you like it?”
Rabbit nodded and said a
quiet thank you.
“Put it on,” said
Chessie.
So he did. It felt nice
and warm. The mad hatter looked pleased with himself.
“It looks good don’t it?”
Chessie rolled her eyes.
“Yes, it looks good. Why didn’t you give me one?”
“Because you were bad.”
Chessie hissed. “I was
not. What about the time…”
The forest went silent.
Everybody stopped doing
what they were doing and stood there in the silence.
The snow fell silently
all around them.
One of them pointed up
into the sky. The sound of bells could be heard. They were getting closer.
They all gathered around
a spruce tree and waited. Rabbit kept back.
The bells were getting
louder.
Something else was
falling. The sprites were gathering them up. One held up a bag in their hand.
“It’s candy!”
They all went scrambling
for their bags.
Rabbit decided it was
time to go. Now they would be busy with their candy bags.
When he got to his home.
There was a little gift sitting by his hole. Rabbit picked it up and went down
his hole where a toasty warm fire was waiting for him.
He sat on his little
fluffy chair and opened it. Inside was some sweet juicy carrots and some greens
that smelled so fresh, it was like they were just plucked out of the garden.
“Thank you Santa.”
He snuggled down by the
fire with his gift and his red scarf to keep him warm.
Merry Xmas from
Wonderland!

SNOW STORM
It was getting close to Christmas Eve and the winds were stirring up the
fresh snow. Hudson the polo bear and his small friend Snowflake were making
their way across the hills. It was getting hard to see but Snowflake had his
special light that shone the way.
They
had a destination to get to but with the wind blowing the new snow around it
was hard even with Snowflakes special light. And now new snow was starting to
fall again. They kept going despite the weather.
“Don’t
worry Hudson, you and I have made it through worse snowstorms.”
Hudson
raised his large head up. “I know but this storm coming in tells me it’s going
to be a nasty one. We have to speed up to get there or we will be late.”
Hudson
picked up his pace. Over the large hill they went and that is when they saw a
light that looked like it was under the snow. It flashed off and on and the
snow was starting to cover it up.
“I
wonder what it is,” said Snowflake.
Hudson
slumbered over towards the flashing light. When they got to it, Hudson swiped
the snow away and it was a bell. Hudson sniffed it. “I think this belongs to
Santa Clause. It must have dropped from his sleigh.”
The
snow was starting to fall heavier now. Snowflake slid off Hudson’s back to
investigate. He sniffed it as well. “Yup, I think you are right. It belongs to
Santa.” Snowflake looked up into the dark sky. Large snowflakes blurred the sky
as they fell faster and faster. The wind was picking up as well.
“How
is Santa going to see his way tonight without his light?”
Snowflake
picked it up and climbed up Hudson’s back and hung around Hudson’s neck. “Let’s
keep going and maybe we will see the sleigh along the way. We can give it back
to him,” Snowflake told Hudson.
So
onward they went through the snow that was turning into a nasty storm. Even for
Hudson it was proving to be a challenge to get through the falling whirling
snow. They made over another hill and that is where they saw a glow. “We made
it,” cried Snowflake. “That is the house we want to go to.”
Hudson
picked up speed going down the hill almost sliding down. Snowflake hung on.
When they got to the bottom, there was activity going on. Both bears looked
around to see what it was. There was a lot of tracks in the snow. Snowflake
hopped down to look at the tracks. “They look like reindeer tracks. Santa has
already been here.”
“We
better deliver out gift and then look some more around to see if they are still
here.”
Snowflake
scampered up to the Xmas tree that was lit up and placed a little gift under
the tree that was inside his little satchel that he carried. “There, Cotton
ball will get his gift.”
Hudson
came up to Snowflake. “Let’s go see what we can find.”
Snowflake
climbed onto Hudson’s back and off they went exploring around the big spruce
trees sniffing to see what they could find. The snow was getting heavy now and
all the tracks were being covered up now and the wind was getting stronger.
“We
are going to have to head back Snowflake. “It’s now use. We’ll never find
anything out here now.”
They
started back up the hill to go home when they heard something just ahead of
them, near where they placed their gift for Cotton ball. Hudson gasped. “It’s
him.”
Santa
turned and smiled at them. “There is my bell. You found it!”
Hudson
sped up to where Santa was and Santa greeted them with a warm smile. “I’m so
glad you found it. I thought I had lost that special bell.”
“We’re
glad we found you,” said Snowflake. “Now you can see your way.”
Santa
let out a rumble of laugh. “Oh little one, Santa always finds his way. No
matter what.” He came up to Hudson and cupped the bell. “This bell I think will
have another special purpose tonight.”
Both
Hudson and Snowflake looked at him. “I think you need this bell more than me. This
bell will take home safely. The storm is getting worse.” He patted the bell
making it tinkle. It also started to glow more. “There my friends. You will be
safe tonight along with your friend who brought a special gift for. You have
shown your kindness and thoughtfulness tonight and this bell is my gift to you.”
Snowflake
clapped his paws together. Santa laughed and looked up into the sky where the
sound of sleigh bells made themselves heard through the wind. And like the wind
he turned into sparkling snow dust that rose into the air and soon disappeared
into the dark snowy sky.
Hudson
and Snowflake soon made their way through the hills with no problem. The little
bell brought them home safe and sound like Santa had promised.
They
crawled into their den where they left the snowy night behind. Inside they
found a special gift for them. “Santa’s been here, cried Snowflake.
Snowflake
scampered over to see what it was. Hudson joined him. Inside were two wool
scarves, one for each of them. And another bell. Snowflake added to the other
one around Hudson’s neck.
Hudson
curled up with Snowflake cuddled up to him. Both bells gave off a soft glow as
the two bears slept. Outside the soft jingle of sleigh bells rang out. “Merry
Xmas to you both!”

Hi this mild winter day! Sunny too! Here is a little tale of a frosty tree. Hope you enjoy.
THE FROST TREE
Flash fiction
In the winter there is
magical tree that affects a few days in the winter. Things like really cold
winds and temperatures fluctuate wildly.
But the biggest thing is
that it draws everyone out to come to it and no one knows why. Some offer it
gifts thinking that it will bring good luck and others say prayers to wish good
health to all.
Whatever the reason, the white
frosted tree towers over the valley in the winter giving off a magical feeling
that no one can deny.
So instead of trying to figure
it out, everyone just celebrates it for whatever it means to them.
Happy Winter to all!

STORYBOOK DREAMS-flash fiction
Hello everyone! Today is about little girl and her adventure into Storybook Dreams. Hope you enjoy!
TIP JAR:
STORYBOOK DREAMS
Flash fiction
One night a little girl
by the name of Rose decided to crawl into her book.
She wanted to meet the
characters. Rose waited till after bed when the moon was shining through her
window.
Keeping very quiet she crept
out of her bed and went over to where her bookshelf was.
With both hands Rose
pulled out the heavy hardcover book and plopped it on the floor.
Like magic is fell open
onto a page that almost glowed.
Rose stood in awe as she
could feel a breeze come out from the book. She came closer and looked in and
could see a field with a steam running by it.
A tree with red leaves
stood tall nearby. Some of the red leaves were whirling around in the air.
Then something came
toward her and she stood back and watched a cluster of red balloons come
floating up and they hovered in front of her as if they wanted her to take
them.
So she did. They pulled
her into the book and now she was standing on a hill with silky green grass
tickling her legs.
Rose smiled and looked
around. “Where am I?” she said out loud to whoever might hear.
“Why you are in the land
of book dreams, my dear.”
Rose looked hard to see
who had answered her. Then over the hill flew a large butterfly with different
shades of red. He glimmered in the low sun.
The red butterfly landed
on a nearby clump of daisies that were swaying in the strong breeze. He really
had to hang on to not be blown away.
“Who are you?” asked
Rose. “I don’t remember you in any of my stories.”
The red butterfly who had
finally managed to hold himself still for a moment looked at her with his tiny
black bead eyes. “I certainly am there. I flutter about where ever I want to go
and whatever story I feel like it.”
“I see,” said Rose. “Where
then are the characters of my stories? Is Buffy bunny here and my favorite fluffy
kitty-Suki here somewhere? I would love to meet them.”
The red butterfly swung
low to the ground from the breeze but managed to hang on. ”I believe they are
in over there but they don’t like wind much. But don’t fret, the wind will die
down soon. We can have a picnic.”
Rose clapped her hands.
It wasn’t long when the
wind did soften and Rose got her wish.
Buffy the bunny and fluffy
kitty-Suki came bounding out over the hill. Along with them came more, another
little girl came with them. She looked like a rag doll but she could run fast.
She came up to Rose and
swung her around all excited.
The red butterfly cleared
his throat and everyone turned their attention to him.
“This is Rose everyone.
She is here to have a picnic with us.”
They all clapped and got
ready. The rag girl that Rose had called Kally, laid out a red and white
checkered cloth for them to sit on.
Buffy bunny set out
mismatched tea cups. Suki set a cake in the middle that Rose didn’t where it
had come from.
They all sat down and the
red butterfly lit down on the cloth. They found a stone to lay on top of the
string to hold the balloons.
The cake was strawberry and
everyone got their fingers sticky.
The rag doll had more
napkins though and went down to the creak dipped them in so everyone could
clean up.
Rose had a lovely time
but now was falling asleep. It was time for her to go to bed.
The rag doll Kally took
her by the hand and took her back tucking her into bed.
“Sweet dreams, and we
will have another picnic with more friends.”
Rose hugged her own rag
doll and drifted off and dreamt of the red butterfly telling her stories.

THE OAK TREE NYMPH-flash fiction
Hello everyone! Hope all is well. Today we have a little faerie tale. Hope you enjoy!
THE OAK TREE NYMPH
THE OAK TREE NYMPH
Flash fiction
It was said that she was
once human but it’s hard to say given the ways stories can change with age.
Deep in the Old Ridge
forest that is so old that a lot of it has even disappeared through time, is
said to be where she met the love of her life.
Siera was walking through the woods and some said
she was walking that day with a troubled mind and that was what caught his
attention.
No matter what, when she
came back from her walk, her mood was different.
Each day she made a trip
back into the forest and her family was wondering why she was doing this so her
father and brother followed her one day’
They lost track of her
half way and could not find her. They both panicked and thought something had
gotten her.
But when they went back,
there she was. And when they asked her about it, she only smiled and said that
she had only gone for some herbs.
They both looked at one
another and ended up shrugging it off. They didn’t follow her again.
But this one day a
stranger came to their cottage and was asker for Siera.
It was her sister that
came and got her. Her father and brother were not home.
When Siera went to the
door, she smiled. Her sister knew that this gentleman was not like them and ran
to get her father and brother.
But by the time they all
got back, Siera was gone. They all rushed to the forest to find her.
All they could see was
some tracks that ended up at an old oak tree. None of them could figure out
where she went. There were no other tracks leading anywhere but to the tree.
Finally after an
exhausting hunt, they went back home.
They never did find her
but her sister Mary who had gone for a walk in the woods and walked to the old
tree where the tracks had ended. The rains had made everything lush and the air
smelled sweet.
Mary looked around as if
looking for her sister. When she turned around to leave, she felt a familiar presence.
She didn’t turnaround right away but could feel eyes on her.
A prickle crept up her
neck.
When she got brave enough
to turn around Mary thought she saw eyes hidden in the tree looking at her and
her own eyes went wide.
She whispered Siera. But
when she blinked all she was some bugs crawling over the bark.
The experience haunted
Mary the whole trip back. Thoughts of the stranger that Siera appeared to know
played out in her mind.
When she got back home,
she never told the rest of her family what had happened.
The whole story from
there was vague and faded but it was believed that Siera had been taken by a
woodland faerie and now lived with him in the old forest.
The old oak tree which is stands tall and big now is still there wielding unknown magic by her.

THE MAGICIAN-FLASH FICTION
Today we have some black cat magic! Hope you enjoy.
THE MAGICIAN
Flash fiction
There is no need to fear
him when he shows up suddenly. You know he is around when you see this little
glow in the park near the edge.
Out of the blue you will
see a lamp post. That is the sign that tells you the magician has arrived.
Now don’t expect to see a
man or a woman. Sometimes you might see a black cat.
It could be his familiar?
But no one knows or asks.
There is no hat for a rabbit
to pop out of but instead things appear out of nowhere.
But if there is a hat,
beware.
What comes out of this
hat depends on you.
He will offer you wishes
for your consideration. Be careful as you wonder how he knew what you always
had wished for.
His green eyes will bewitch
you as you ponder. Better to say no thank you.
Better to let him do his
magic to just entertain you.

AUTUMN TEA
Poem
The cool air wraps up
around us and reminds us of the time of year it is.
The smell of autumn and its
freshness feels good actually. A relief from the summer heat of a few weeks
ago.
The leaves start to turn
and fall to the ground creating a crunchy ground as we walk.
Raking and making piles
for the kids and dogs to leap through and even a kitty.
Pumpkins gathered up from
the garden and used for display.
Warm soup to be made from
the pumpkins and butternuts to warm us up.
But a nice thing to hold
in your hand is some tea while you sit in the old chair outside and enjoy what
warmth the sun has left.
Apple cinnamon or peach
apricot lose tea simmering in a pot warms the soul on a beautiful crisp autumn
day.
The spiced liquid we hold
warming out hands goes through us and fills us with a warmth that makes us feel
good and happy.
Enjoy some autumn tea and
have a happy autumn!

THE WIND QUEEN
Today, in lieu of the windstorm we had yesterday, we have The Wind Queen who was very angry here yesterday! Hope you enjoy!
THE WIND QUEEN
Flash fiction
She was angry today and
she wouldn’t say why. Most said she was moody anyway and would lash out just
for fun.
But the wind was so
strong today that I don’t think the queen was lashing out for fun.
I think she was hurt and
this was her way of expressing herself of her feelings.
She was not angry but who
or what hurt her?
Questions would get constantly
thrown into the wind she created getting torn into shreds.
So, there was a bit of
anger there but still…
All we could do was wait
it out until she settled down and her feeling were more rational.
The sun shone at least
but her wind had a bitter bite to it.
Love can turn a warm
heart cold. Maybe a love hurt her.
The wind had blown as
hard as she could muster it until the day was coming to an end.
Maybe now she was
starting to calm down. The sky was turning into many hues of oranges and reds
as her wind started to die down but not completely.
Hopefully her feeling
were being mended. The trees and grasses couldn’t take any more. Leaves of the
trees were blown so far a way that it felt like they were taken to another part
of the world.
Finally, the wind stopped
and it was as if everything held its breath. Nothing moved.
The night quietly came
and stayed wind free for the night.
There was only a light
breeze in the night and when the early daylight hours started to emerge, a
light breeze accompanied it.
Everything was fine until
the sun came up and then the wind again started to blow.
I guess whoever had made
her mad had not gave their apologies.
But at least her madness was
not as angry.

Novella
Hello everyone! Today I have something a little different. This is the start of what I think will be a novella and new fantasy series that I would like to write. No title yet. So here is the beginning of it and when I do finish the novella, I will post it here in two part or three depending on how long it is. Enjoy!

I
could see him holding the blade to her chest. I knew what was going to happen.
My heart was dying along with hers. But my love had some fight left in her. She
made a move that made me smile but he was quicker, sloppy but quicker. She fell
to her knees and that brought a smile to his face. I stepped out from the trees
and startled him. His silver blue eyes looked shocked but then fell away to a
smile that was fit for a dying heart of the one you hate. “Bryony, come to see
your love?"
I
was unmoving and with a flash I flung an arrow at him. It nailed him in the
shoulder and I flung another arrow at him this time aiming for the chest or
head which ever way the fool jerked. It seemed he was faster than anticipated.
He hissed and flew in the air and turned to silky white mist. I ran to Ash. She
was still breathing. He hadn’t killed her but she was still dying. Something
was out of place. I gently rolled her over. It became visible to me. Blood ran
down a small spear that she had been hidden inside her vest. It seemed when she
fell it pierced her heart – just enough. I recognized it- the invisible spear
of Lug. She never told me about it. I shoved the spear all the way in.

MISTWOODS-SELINA
Hello and welcome. Today I have another short story in my Mistwood's world. I see these shorts as a way of introducing characters to myself in this world. Hope you enjoy!
Selina was tiny and that was an advantage. She could hide herself and watch. It was becoming a favorite pastime with her. Selina would sneak off from her parents home and go to the edge of the woods where the humans lived. There was one human that had caught her eye and she was most fascinated by him. He was also handsome and looked very strong.
MISTWOODS-SELINA
Selina was tiny and that was an advantage. She could hide herself and watch. It was becoming a favorite pastime with her. Selina would sneak off from her parents home and go to the edge of the woods where the humans lived. There was one human that had caught her eye and she was most fascinated by him. He was also handsome and looked very strong.
If her parents knew or even a certain someone else, they would be furious with her. So, she always took her basket with her to make them think she was out gathering wild herbs and flowers. So far it worked and no one questioned her or followed her. Selina knew how to cover her tracks and scent so that no one could follow her. Her father taught her that to keep her safe.
Selena watched him work away at his wood cutting. She so badly wanted to come closer to him but she didn’t know if he would be one of the friendly ones or not and since he had a very sharp Axe, she didn’t want to tempt fate with him.
Soon after awhile, she knew he would be heading back to the village. He picked up his Axe and threw it into his wagon. Then he stood still as if he could senses something. He looked around and sniffed.
Selina froze. Did he smell her? What human could smell a faerie? She didn’t know what to do. Her legs wouldn’t move for her.
She watched him walk around his wagon and she could see those dark brown eyes scanning all around him looking for something.
Finally he took a deep breath and got on his horse and off they went to down the old path back to his home.
Selena came out then and carefully went up to the edge of the old path and watched him disappear. Her heart was still thudding. She grabbed her basket and off she went home.
Before she even got there she picked up this strong scent. It stopped her short. And that is when she noticed her empty basket.Quickly she turned around and walked back to get her herbs. She couldn’t go back with an empty basket.
But the scent got stronger. She walked faster to get a way. Before she knew he was right beside her. His warm hand slid around her waist and his warm sweet breath was at her ear.
“Where do you think you are running off to? Why are you in such a big hurry?”
“I have herbs to gather and I don't need help.”
Terisa looked down at her empty basket. “You’ve been gone for a while. Why isn’t your basket full? What were you doing all this time?”
She stopped and pulled herself away from him and threw her shoulders back. “I don’t have to answer to you. I can as I please.”
Terisa laughed. “You do have a strong mind but I know you all too well. You also have a curious mind. You can get transfixed on something or someone?”
Her chest thumped. “What are you talking about?”
He grinned. “I followed you today.”
Her eyes went wide and she could feel her face heat. He laughed softly. “Don’t worry love, I wasn’t threatened by that human you were watching. Why he was so fascinating to you is beyond my thinking. Don’t you know to stay away from them? Especially one with a weapon.”
“He didn't see me.” Her heart was still beating wildly. Was it Terisa that he could sense? This human perhaps has some talents that were special? Some humans did.
“I don’t think you should come out here anymore anyway. Did you notice that he picked up something? I thought I was going to have to rescue you.”
It had been a couple of days since she went and one morning it so beautiful out that she decided to take her basket and go gather herbs and flowers.
When she came to the path that she took to watch the human, she stood there deciding on what to do. Remembering Terisa’s warning about the human, she went down another path. She was almost at her destination when a loud crash shook the forest. She startled and looked ahead to see what it was. Maybe a deer?
But when she got closer, it was a man, a human man and as soon as he rolled over on the ground, their eyes met. Selina froze on the spot.
After what felt like a long time, he spoke. ”Could you help me up? I fell off my horse.” He sounded a bit embarrassed.
She cautiously came forward. He didn’t look at her funny and didn’t seem to realize what she was. So she helped him up. The smell of magic was so strong from him that it almost knocked her to her feet.
“You okay miss. Didn’t mean to make you fall.” He smiled warmly at her.
She shook her head. ‘No, I’m fine.”
You fell off your horse? Something must have startled him perhaps.”
He looked from his horse to her. Her chest started to take a lively beat. She couldn't’ believe that she was standing right in front of him.
“Perhaps,” he finally said. You should be careful out here. There are dangers that have come to this forest. Maybe pick your herbs closer to home?”
Her eyes went wide and she wondered if he was the danger. She was about to run when a loud sound screeching noise shattered the silence in the forest.
He looked down at her. Hop on the horse with me and I will take you back. We have no time.”
Before she knew it she was on the horse and he was tight sitting tight up against her.
They took off like the wind.
Now they were at her home and she was really scared now as her father came out to see what was going on.
He leaped down and helped her down. “Your daughter was in the forest when I fell. She helped me up and then we were attacked. I got away quickly and got her back home.
As quickly as he came he got up on his horse and bid them all farewell.
Her father came up to her and stood be her side. He looked over at her finally and said, “You were lucky he was there to get you away.”
Selina was a bit confused. Did her father not know that this was a human? The ones that he constantly warned her about?”
“Do you know who he is father?”
As he was escorting her back to the house, he answered her question. “Yes, my dear. I know who he is. He is one of the most powerful mages in this realm.”
